Unexpected riding in the rain!

After heavy rain yesterday and this morning, the beautiful sunny lunch time came.  So we went riding immediately without eating.

When we had ridden for 2.5 miles, the rain started again, but we hoped it would stop soon and continued.  Unfortunately we were wrong, the rain got heavier and heavier so the rain started to drip from my helmet.  I was riding more carefully than usual.

When we had ridden more than 5 miles, we stopped because we were soaked and wet.

This was the heaviest rain in which I've ridden.  That was an adventure for me.

Finally we found some time to ride.

Gardening, and our kitchen cleaning and painting...  which is endless, so we stopped.
Let's ride a bicycle!  My goodness, we haven't biked for 3 days!!

We did the long up-slop sprint as long as my legs could continue, and went back down.

My legs were OK enough, my breathing was not great but good enough. But my butt was hurting!  I couldn't believe it.  Only three days no ride made my butt muscle smashed and hurt???  Did I gain? Not much I thought.  Working made me stressed some...

OK.  I will watch out what I'm eating.

I haven't had butt pain for a long time before, so this is  a little shocking.

We have a much warmer February here.  We don't have a professional gardener's help.  We  have to take care of it from time to time.  So we did little by little, we thought.  But our physical strengths are very limited which is worse than last year.
When we use the muscles which we usually don't use, then we will get trouble. Sigh....
Strange pains are everywhere, so we haven't ridden for three days....

But we will sure ride tomorrow no matter what!

The first experience of share bike

While visiting Japan, we had an opportunity to use share bikes in Kawagoe city, Saitama.  At the port where sharing bikes were, we registered with a credit card for paying the charge and IC cards for using bikes.  Since we had IC cards which were Suica and Pasmo, it was easy to use the system.

There were nice bicycle lanes on some roads, but not on others.  It was Sunday afternoon, so there were many people on the popular roads, and cars too.  That was quite an exciting and thrilling experience for me.  I was very careful not to touch any people by the bike and I succeeded.  All the car drivers were very cautious, so I was relieved and spoiled.  We enjoyed riding for at least an hour or more.  We switched bikes 6 times within 40 minutes.  So it cost only 400 yen altogether.

This was the least busy street, so he could take photo of me riding.

Now I'm very scared to ride on the main streets in home town.  We decided to ride only bike path or trail for now except the residential roads in our neighborhood.

We started 2016 cycling in Japan.

We came back from Japan at the end of last January.
There are many rental cycling centers in the park which have relatively cheap rental charges in Japan.  So we enjoyed riding in 5 parks in Tokyo and near by.

Kokuei (run by national government) Showa memorial park
Got off the train at JR Tachikawa, walked for 15 min.  We paid the entrance fee 410 yen for me, and 210 yen for him ( 65+ discount), then at Tachikawaguchi cycle center we paid 410 yen each for renting bicycles for 3 hours.
All the rental bicycles have only 3 gears which was the first experience for me and I worried if I could handle it or not.

Surprisingly, it was stable and easy for me to ride.  But you aren't allowed to ride very fast.

The course has lines clearly showing where you're heading, and there were some places to turn off from the course to park.  We rode about 8 miles.

Kuritsu (Koto-ku built) Wakasu park
This cycling course was short, but the breeze from Tokyo bay was fresh and very comfortable on amazingly warm day of January in Tokyo.  The rental bicycle has single gear, so I needed a little time to get to used to it.

But after that that was fine, because we were asked to pay for a ticket at the service center which was only 100 yen each for an hour, then showed the ticket to choose a bicycle.  So we rode another one hour to enjoy and paid an additional 100 yen each after we brought them back.

What luck, we had blue sky, sunlight and ocean breeze on that day.  We rode 11.2 miles.

Tokyo toritsu (Tokyo prefecture built)YOYOGI park
This cycling course was also short; the flat road, longish up-slope, and a crow's forest? etc. made it very interesting to ride through.

We rode 5 rounds, about 5.6 miles.  These bicycles were single gear too. We paid 210 yen each for an hour.

KOMAZA Olympic park
Two days after Tokyo's heavy snow fall we went there, luckily the cycling course was cleared out so we could enjoy riding.

But there was some snow left here and there around the trees.

The cycling course was running along with a jogging course.  The wind was icy cold, gusty wind blowing up browned leaves on the ground violently.  210 yen each for an hour was enough to finish off a 5.2 mile ride for us.  That was freezing!!

KOKUEI Musashi-kyuryo SHINRIN park  in Saitama prefecture
Took Tobu Tojo line from Ikebukuro for 47 min., we got off at Shinrin koen station, then we took a bus for 35 min. to get the South entrance of the park.  At the gate of the park we paid 410 yen for me, and 210 yen for him.  The bicycle had 3 gears, we paid 410 yen each for 3 hours.
As the name of Shinrin the cycling course was running in the forest,  passing by ponds too.

Luckily we went there before the snow, it was a sunny and warm day.  We liked it the most.  Rode 21 miles.
